Hello and welcome to Horizon Counseling Center. My name is Bingliu, and I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #156663). I hold a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and am currently in the final year of my Ph.D. program in Marriage and Family Therapy. Under the supervision of a licensed clinician, I provide psychotherapy for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families.
My therapeutic approach is warm, collaborative, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed. My work is primarily grounded in Emotionally Focused Therapy, an attachment-based approach that helps clients understand their underlying emotions, attachment needs, and relationship patterns. Depending on the client and treatment context, I draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT), Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), and Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT).
Through emotionally focused work, I help couples recognize and change negative interactional cycles, support individuals in developing healthier relationships with themselves and others, and help families strengthen emotional connection, caregiver responsiveness, and co-regulation. My formal EFT training includes EFT Fundamentals, the EFT Externship, and ICEEFT Core Skills Training.
I also have a strong interest in supporting clients affected by childhood trauma, relationship trauma, distressing life events, and other experiences that continue to affect emotional well-being and relationships. I have completed EMDR Basic Training, Parts 1 and 2, as well as Brainspotting Levels 1 and 2, Expansion Training, and Intensity Training. When clinically appropriate, I integrate EMDR and Brainspotting within a carefully paced treatment process to help clients explore connections among distressing memories, emotions, beliefs, physical sensations, and present-day triggers. Emotional safety, preparation, stabilization, and each client’s readiness guide the pace of trauma treatment.
Premarital Counseling and Relationship Enrichment
I offer Prepare/Enrich counseling for couples who are preparing for marriage or considering a deeper long-term commitment. Couples do not need to be experiencing serious relationship difficulties to benefit from this service.
Prepare/Enrich gives couples a structured opportunity to identify their relationship strengths, understand potential areas for growth, and have important conversations about communication, conflict resolution, emotional and physical intimacy, finances, personality differences, family-of-origin influences, shared values, relationship roles, and expectations regarding marriage and parenting.
I integrate Prepare/Enrich with emotionally focused and attachment-based principles to help couples deepen mutual understanding, strengthen their emotional connection, and build a secure foundation for marriage or long-term partnership.
My additional professional training includes Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Level 1; Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT); Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT); PC-CARE, Level 1; Psychological First Aid; and Expressive Arts Therapy. When appropriate, I may incorporate expressive arts activities to help clients explore experiences that are difficult to communicate through words alone.
I support clients experiencing concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma-related distress, relationship conflict, emotional disconnection, premarital concerns, parenting challenges, family transitions, grief, identity and cultural concerns, and difficulties with emotional expression or regulation.
I believe every person, couple, and family has unique strengths. I strive to create a safe and nonjudgmental space where clients feel understood and supported as they develop insight, strengthen resilience, heal from difficult experiences, and create meaningful change.
To better serve the diverse communities in our area, I provide psychotherapy in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Hakka. Whether you are seeking support for yourself, your child, your relationship, or your family, I would be honored to work alongside you with compassion, curiosity, and respect.
