Kara Eggert, Trainee

Supervised by Ashley Barnes-Brown, LMFT #127661

Hello and welcome! My name is Kara Eggert, and I am an MFT Trainee here at Horizon Counseling Center. If you are looking for a supportive environment where you can speak honestly, process the heavy things, and catch your breath, you are in the exact right place. My primary passion is working with individuals, adults, couples, and families from all walks of life. No matter where you are starting from or what you are carrying, my focus is to meet you where you are and support you as you build a meaningful, satisfying life.  I am currently earning my Master’s Degree in Marriage & Family Therapy from Touro University Worldwide. I receive clinical supervision from Ashley Barnes-Brown, LMFT, 127661, to ensure ethical, effective, and compassionate care.

I work with individuals, adults, couples, and families from all walks of life. I am here to meet you wherever you are on your journey and support you in building the meaningful life you want.

Helping individuals, couples, and families manage anxiety, trauma, PTSD, secondary trauma, communication,  and life transitions. Additionally, I support anyone navigating the challenging ripple effects of a loved one's substance use and addiction.

My approach is best described as integrative, client-centered, and trauma-informed. I focus on the deeper emotional connections and how these dynamics shape your everyday life. To do this, I pull from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Structural Family Systems, TF-CBT, and ACT to promote deeper behavioral awareness and sustainable change. Sessions are paced around what feels safe and comfortable for you.

Before transitioning into mental health, I spent a lot of my career in the fire service. That experience gave me a firsthand understanding of acute crises, as well as a deep, personal respect for the unique stressors and secondary traumatic stress that first responders and their families carry every day. I am also deeply invested in helping individuals and families cope with the overwhelming ripple effects of a loved one's substance use.
